A Canadian man bought a Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck for $115,000 and was forced to leave it behind during a family road trip to Chicago, after a number of problems with charging. He shared his story on X, where he called the EV truck “the biggest scam of modern times” and expressed his regret.
Ryan, said he planned his route carefully and used an app to locate charging stations that were compatible with his truck. However, he soon realized that many of the chargers were either broken, occupied, or too slow. He also claimed that the truck’s battery range was much lower than advertised, and that he had to drive at low speeds and turn off the air conditioning to conserve power. He said he spent more time and money on charging the truck than on enjoying the trip with his family.
Ryan’s ordeal climaxed when he arrived in Minnesota, where he could not find any working chargers. He said he had no choice but to leave his truck and rent a gas-powered car to continue his family trip. He blamed Ford for not providing enough support and infrastructure for its EV customers. He also criticized the EV industry for being overhyped and misleading.
