Tesla vs. BYD: EV titans in a close battle

Both Tesla and BYD are major players in the electric vehicle (EV) market, and comparing them can be quite interesting. Here's a breakdown of some key areas:

Market Share:

  • Tesla: Leading the global EV market in 2023 with 1.8 million delivered vehicles. However, BYD outsold Tesla in Q4 2023 and expects to do so again in 2024, especially in China.

  • BYD: Leading the global market for "new energy vehicles" (NEVs), which includes battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. BYD sold 3.2 million NEVs in 2023, with 1.6 million being battery-only EVs.

Financials:

  • Tesla: Higher market capitalization and valuation ($700 billion vs. $80 billion for BYD) but lower profit margins.

  • BYD: More diversified business model with other industries like solar power and batteries, contributing to higher profit margins.

Who's winning? Close call! Tesla holds the global crown, but BYD's on fire, especially in China. The future hinges on market expansion, tech advances, and evolving consumer choices.Overall:

Both Tesla and BYD are exciting EV companies with different strengths and weaknesses. Tesla currently holds the global EV crown, but BYD is rapidly catching up, especially in terms of volume and affordability. The future of the competition will likely depend on factors like market expansion, technological advancements, and evolving consumer preferences.

Main Course: Job Watch, MIT Study believes you might be safe.

In a recent study conducted by MIT, researchers found that AI is not likely to cause significant job loss in the near future. The study revealed that the majority of jobs previously identified as being at risk of AI displacement aren’t, in fact, “economically beneficial” to automate. This means that for many jobs, it is still more cost-effective to employ human workers rather than replace them with AI.

The results of the MIT study contradict many of the other surveys carried out, showing that the widespread concern about AI wiping out jobs is not supported by the data. While AI may change the mix of jobs in the future, it is not likely to do so as dramatically as some have predicted. In the meantime, the study suggests that AI will continue to be used to augment human work rather than replace it.

So this news might be a relief to some, it is probably not a relief to the hundreds of employees at Google that have been laid off in the hundreds more that are supposedly coming. It is also probably not much comfort for the thousands who have been laid off it meta. These layoffs might not have had much to do with AI but then again……

Government/laws We do need some kind of governance to attempt to control the expanse of AI tech, yet i question our government's ability to handle it properly. Non the less the Feds are getting involved with a pilot program. Red more
